Aligarh Muslim University arranged a visit for me to a local museum during my recent tour. Located in the middle of a bustling bazaar, the Ibn Sina Academy of Medieval Medicine and Science is run by an illustrious family of ‘Hakims’, doctors, devoted to medieval and modern medicine and Muslim Scientists. The museum and academy is named in honour of the famous Muslim scientist Ibn Sina (980-1037 AD, who is better known in the West as Avicenna.) I was fascinated and delighted to be taken on a personal tour by the proprietor, Dr. Syed Ziaur Rahman (pictured with me), whose father founded this academy. Later, I enjoyed warm hospitality in their home, downstairs, and heard wonderful stories about their family links to Iran by his lovely wife, who is half Iranian.
