Yesterday evening, I had the pleasure of visiting the Grande Mosque of Duisburg with my host, Dorothee Heyder. What a splendid building it is! I was delighted to find that it also has a cultural centre and café where people can mix and attend interfaith meetings.
Dusiburg is home to many migrant communities, largely Turkish, and this influence is evident in the splendour of the architecture, painting, tiles and colours within the mosque. I was in awe sitting in the women’s gallery upstairs, taking in the whole of the building — it is absolutely gorgeous — and thinking of the those who worship here, saying their Travee prayers, during the month of Ramadhan.
An awesome wonder to visit — monumental — and so very peaceful and welcoming.
