Last week Qaisra had the pleasure of visiting my father’s former college, visiting the English Language and literature department.
“My visit to Government College for Women, Gulberg. I had a wonderful time at this college. – the staff and students were so welcoming. It was so relaxing.
We talked about so many things, books, literature, writing life, script writing for television, feminism, women, extremism. I spoke about MACFEST, ‘Getting out of one’s box’ and respecting other faiths and cultures. I informed that I had Hindu, Sikh, Jewish friends and how important they were in my life.
I highlighted the danger of intolerant minds. The need to challenge all who promote hate for others, even if they are from your own family. Importance of family life and combining it with career and maintaining that delicate balance. I read from my story, ‘The Slave Catcher’ from my book ‘The Concubine & the Slave Catcher’ set in Boston, about slavery.
Overall I had a lovely morning, including taking group photos with my peace banner #spreadhoneynothate.
Thank you Saman Imtiaz and your wonderful team for hosting me. Qaisra’s host kindly gave her a tour of the university.
It’s been quite a wonderful trip – family tours as well as literary tours. Thank you to all my lovely hosts and staff and teachers at the 2 colleges/universities I visited this week, for making a memorable trip for me!
Thank you all for helping me to promote message of peace of spreading sweetness and saying no to hate with your students and staff”
